Hyperoptic, the UK provider of full-fibre broadband technology, has announced the appointment of Per-Gunnar Ostby as director of sales.

Ostby joins from Quest Software, where he led the team responsible for sales in emerging markets.

Prior to that he was responsible for sales and products at Be Unlimited, the consumer broadband start-up founded by Hyperoptic’s Chairman Boris Ivanovic and managing director Dana Tobak in 2005 and sold to O2 in 2006. Per-Gunnar has more than 20 years’ experience in the technology and software sectors and holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from MIT.

Hyperoptic recently enjoyed a £50M investment from Quantum Strategic Partners (a private investment vehicle managed by Soros Fund Management). Within the next five years Hyperoptic aims to reach more than 500,000 homes across the UK with its market-leading 1 Gbps true fibre broadband.

Tobak, said: “Per-Gunnar joins Hyperoptic at an exciting time: we hope to be in a position to roll out our ground-breaking fibre-to-the-home technology to several new UK cities in the next few months, and are already seeing immense demand from consumers for more ‘hypercities’. With his extensive experience in the technology sector, Per-Gunnar is perfectly suited to lead the sales team as we expand into new markets and products.”

Ostby added: “Having worked with Boris and Dana at Be, I am excited to come on board at Hyperoptic, where they are again setting new standards in hyperfast broadband provision. Consumers and businesses have woken up to the fact that many ISPs over-promise and under-deliver when it comes to speed and quality of broadband services and now recognise the need for next generation connectivity and technology. I relish the challenge of helping Hyperoptic achieve their ambitious goals and delivering true FTTH technology to the UK at last.”
