It’s not often you meet a sales training expert who claims you can boost sales performance by not trying to close deals but that’s exactly what Isla Wilson of Ruby Star maintains.
And, far from being seen as some strange leftfielder, Wilson’s earned the Tweeting backing of one of the UK’s top sales entrepreneurs, the Dragon’s Den regular Theo Paphitis.
SI managed to grab a few moments of Isla’s time away from her Cheshire agency to try to find out from where her radical approach to sales stemmed.
She said: “Academically my background is psychology and then I was a management consultant for Amazon Consultants as it was before Excenture and was there for the change to Excenture.
“I was working, primarily, with big brands like Virgin, WH Smith, Nokia and those sort of organisations. The I quit my job because I monumentally didn’t give a s**t anymore and I’m happy to be quoted on that! Been there and done that and whole thing didn’t inspire me anymore.”
Wilson said she was looking for a new challenge but one that included a measure of social awareness rather than just a slavish addiction to the bottom-line.
